Quote of the week.

~ Memory is very important, the memory of each photo taken, flowing at the same speed as the event. During the work, you have to be sure that you haven't left any holes, that you've captured everything, because afterwards it will be too late. ~
Henri Cartier Bresson

Onteora Mountain House Wedding

We had the honor of working for Claire and Kevin at the Onteora Mountain House this past weekend. This wedding was truly an inspiration to us. Everything was so laid back, relaxed and most of all... fun!
The theme (which was understated) was the 1920's. From the brides dress to the invites to the place cards and music, you could see the theme running through all of the details. I'll be posting some of those soon. Also my friends, Photo Booths ARE FUN! (see below)

The fabulous music was provided by Michael Arenella

Think about it!!!!!!!!

(Below Michael and Rachel were married in February. The temperature that day was about 25 degrees) Their wedding story was featured in the New York Times. You can see it here

(The brave couple below got married in December under the Tree at Rockefeller Center. It was about 30 degrees.)

During the winter I normally travel to "warmer" areas to shoot, but I would rather not. I have this little issue with flying..... Anyway, the months of November through April I am offering a special package to all the couples daring enough to get married in the winter. Personally I feel, the way the weather has been this year, the winter weather is the only guarantee that it won't rain. Snow is so much more tolerable. (And pretty)

Send me a message if you would like more info. This option is offered in the Hudson Valley and Greater Metropolitan Area. Stay Warm!!!

WATCH THE GAP!

(Below Corey and Woody)

When you use the NYC subway system and commuter trains you hear this ALL the time. "Be sure and watch the gap", 50 times a ride it's repeated to you. What many may not think of is watching the gap for your pets.
Yesterday on the Metro North A lovely woman and her dog "Broadway Woody" proceeded to get on the train in Croton Harmon. Woody carefully stepped onto the train and before anyone knew it his two back legs fell into the gap.
Luckily two heroes were also aboard the train. A gentleman who I did not see, assisted Corey (A Yankees fan) Who just so happened to be walking on along with Woody. They thought fast and quickly scooped up Woody (who is 79 pounds) and saved him.
I found out later that Woody has some problems with his back legs and has had some surgery, so sometimes his legs don't work the way he wants them to.
Woody's mom was pretty upset and affected by what almost happened, so we spoke to the conductor and he put down a ramp for woody when we left the train at Grand Central. Woody went off on his way home to midtown, as happy as he was before all of the drama.
So the moral of this story is to, Please be aware of this gap! Whether your furry friend is small, large old or young. And please do not be afraid to ask for the ramp when in doubt.

Green Weddings!

One of my most favorite places to work is Cat Rock (Osborn Castle). They have been at the castle for generations and take great pride in being very environmentally friendly. After speaking with them it occurred to me more that I really need to push the “green wedding”

For me offering a green wedding package means reducing the amount of paper, chemicals and transportation when I shoot. Some people might think it’s taking the “cheap” way out. But what I do is offer more of my time, which doesn’t leave much of a carbon footprint… I’m only a size 6.

What I offer in the green package:

-Unlimited shooting.
-All images are posted to a private online gallery.
-All the images are backed up on a server and external drive (to reduce the amount of DVD’s used)
-ALL images are edited.
-Instead of a paper album you can receive a number of your images as a digital slide show.

*I still encourage couples to make prints, but only to print what they will use and cherish.

I also encourage couples to reduce travel, especially to different “photo” locations. When picking a venue keep photography in mind, but also remember that great pictures can be taken anywhere. Its not about the flower bed behind you, it’s about the two of you. Also any unnecessary travel takes time away from the two of you relaxing and enjoying your friends and family.

And please, no more disposable cameras. I have found that about 10% of the frames actually come out and honestly EVERYONE has a digital camera now and believe me when I tell you, minutes after your reception ends there will be thousands of images of your wedding posted on facebook for everyones viewing pleasure.

For every couple that chooses a green wedding package I will donate a little extra for animal charities. I believe there is nothing greener than trying to help helpless creatures.
